Definitions of Plastic packaging APRO Recycling recycle

There is a wide range of plastic packaging that APRO Recycling recycle. To make sorting and thus recycling easier, the American Society of Plastics Industry developed a standard marking code to help consumers identify and sort the main types of plastic for recycling. These types of plastic packaging and their most common uses are shown below:

Type Abbreviation Description
Polyethylene terephthalate PET Fizzy drink bottles and oven-ready meal trays. APRO Recycling recycle PET in many forms, packaging etc.
High-density polyethylene HDPE Bottles for milk and washing-up liquids. APRO Recycling recycle HDPE mouldings, packaging and many other forms.
Polyvinyl chloride PVC Food trays, cling film, bottles for squash, mineral water and shampoo. APRO Recycling recycle PVC in some forms and types.
Low density polyethylene LDPE Carrier bags and bin liners. APRO Recycling recycle LDPE packaging, moulding, bottle and baled waste.
Polypropylene PP Margarine tubs, microwaveable meal trays. APRO Recycling recycle PP bottles, mouldings, sheet and baled waste.
Polystyrene PS Yoghurt pots, foam meat or fish trays, hamburger boxes and egg cartons, vending cups, plastic cutlery, protective packaging for electronic goods and toys. APRO Recycling recycle PS in all forms, containers, mouldings, packaging and sheet.
OTHER OTHER Any other plastics that do not fall into any of the above categories.
An example is melamine, which is often used in plastic plates and cups.
